Memphis, Tenn.

Here comes the third wedding in a row with two “Bobbi Brides” 😀

When Angela inquired with us a little over a year ago and said her wedding would be in Memphis, I couldn’t have been more excited! After all, I’d never photographed a wedding in Memphis before!*

*Is it OK now to end my sentences in prepositions? Has that rule officially been eradicated from the grammar gods?

Lately Megan has been shooting the groomsmen portraits without me while I’m still photographing the tail end of the bride getting ready; and she’s been nailing it!

You're gorgeous Angela, absolutely gorgeous!

…while Megan was shooting the photo above, I was taking the photo below. It also happens to be one of my favorite images from the day. That little dusting of light across her face… YES YES YES!

I often show off more of the unique wedding party photos we take on this blog, but please know that I also always shoot classic / timeless photos. Soapbox time (you’ve been warned): I feel that images like this are important for the longevity of your wedding. It’s likely that your mom has a photo just like this with her bridesmaids, the difference is that they’re likely wearing hats, pastels with poofy sleeves and big hair. 😉 Another few examples of this: a photo of the bride and groom with their champagne flutes standing next to their cake and looking at the camera. Or, if the wedding is in a formal church and the bride has a train, I’ll take the classic photo of the bride holding her bouquet on the top of the stairs with her train trailing down the stairs, it only takes two minutes so why not?! Literally 100% of the time if the bride’s mother and grandmother’s are in the sanctuary when I take it they gasp or tear up at the beauty (here’s a photo that just came to mind that I shot last year of this exact moment, Megan took the one on the right while I sneakily shot the one on the left) because again, those moms and grandmas likely have the exact same photos in their wedding albums. When I sometimes visit the parents of the bride after the wedding I often see that bridal photo hanging in the hallway right next to theirs. Sometimes it’s not all about us (if that makes sense). Oh, and for the record I will always try to shoot that classic full length bridal portrait even if there isn’t a formal church.

Seeeeeee???? 😉

Megan’s view. All 5’2″ of me was standing perrrrfectly behind the pastor so you can’t see me. 😉 Well done Megan!

Come to find out, Kenny is not only a brain surgeon (no, really… he is), he’s also a drummer. Ummm, what CAN’T you do?!

behind the scenes

Because men usually start getting ready later than the ladies, Megan will often start with me at the bride’s home or hotel room to shoot the morning’s details (rings, shoes, dress, etc.) before heading over to photograph the men.

That’s a lot of red hair in one photo!

Indianapolis, Ind.

Four weddings in a row that have all had multiple “Bobbi brides” (this was the second of the four). In other words, I be bookin’ those wedding party members! This is something that I take HUGE pride in. When I say that I’ve never formally advertised because I never have had to because I get all of my business through word-of-mouth, this is a testament to that.

Though full disclosure, I mayyy have to start advertising in Louisville because no one here knows I exist for word-of-mouth to even start. Forrrrr the record, I still consider myself a local business to both Louisville AND Indianapolis. 🙂 On that note, if any of you would who I’ve photographed in the past would be so kind to leave a review on my newly formed Google biz listing and/or my Facebook biz page, I would SO greatly appreciate it!

And now finally… onnnntooooo the Shannon & Adam amazingness!

Shannon & Adam

Shannon, you were such a beautiful bride!

I’m pretttttty sure her wedding ring set is a Verragio. Ohhhh how I love the side view of a Verragio! If you’re into this intricate style of wedding band / engagement ring, also be sure to check out Tacori.

Laurel Hall, you suuuuure are pretty!

Shannon & Adam

Adam would take quick glances over at Shannon periodically throughout the ceremony but couldn’t look for too long because he was soooo close to the verge of tears. I’m not really sure anyone other than Shannon or me noticed but it really was adorable. I truly appreciate and never take for granted that I get to have the best view in the house of moments like these. Have I mentioned lately that I love being a wedding photographer? Because I do.

Shannon & Adam

Instead of a unity candle or a unity sand vase, they chose to combine their two favorite bourbons into this barrel. I’m 99% sure this was the first time I’d ever seen this.

Shannon & Adam

MARRRRRRIEDDDDDD!!!!!

Shannon & Adam

It began to rain riiiight as we started family photos. I’m not sure I’ve ever photographed family photos so quickly! Oh wait, yes I have.  Annnnywayyyy, immediately following the family photo time, I photographed the wedding party. Placing them under this veranda seemed like a good idea. It’s too bad there wasn’t a veranda for me, I got soaked!

Shannon & Adam
Shannon & Adam

High fives to the wedding party for being so attentive and for moving quickly so we could get you all (along with the bride and groom) out of the rain as soon as possible.

Shannon & Adam

The light rain continued throughout photo time; we found that the trees were shielding most of the drizzle. Fo drizzle.

I love your love.

If Megan and I see even a small chance for rain in a forecast, know that we will be showing up with a LOT of clear umbrellas. 😉 This surely wasn’t my first rain rodeo!  I love couples who embrace the weather while trusting that I have their best interests in mind. I can assure you that nothing (to include her hair!) was ruined or affected by the weather conditions.  After nearly 400 weddings I fear, without a doubt, that the bride’s mother will hate me forever if I mess any of this up in any way. Allllllll of that to again say, thank you for trusting me.

Megan, you are SO good at off camera lighting. I’m so lucky to have you on my team. MEGMONEY FOR THE WIN!

I’m pretty proud of this image.

Sisters!

Shannon & Adam

I adore everything about the anniversary dance. If you fear that it’s a cheesy tradition I can tell you with 100% certainty that there are some people there who won’t leave until the anniversary dance is over. Also, your photographer will love the opportunity to photograph as many married couples in a five minute span as possible.

Shannon & Adam

We once took a very similar photo of many of these same people in the same venue with the same DJ. The only difference was the uplighting. 😉

Shannon & Adam

From the bottom of my heart, thank you both for everything.

Me, telling my famous hilarious jokes* while standing in the rain.

*I don’t think I’ve ever actually told a joke at a wedding, I usually make people laugh by just being my quirky, fun self.
Shannon & Adam

See? Proof; I’m hilaaaarious! 😉

Here are the Bobbi brides I mentioned at the beginning of this blog post. 🙂 I photographed Kelsey’s and Jon’s wedding in 2014.

Indianapolis, Ind.

I first met Kamya and Bernard in 2015 where Bernard was a groomsmen. At one point at the reception I walked up to them and said, “when you two get married, I would love to photograph your wedding.” Fast forward to 3 years later I got a phone call and the rest is history!

Kamya & Bernard
Kamya & Bernard

I often play this goofy game that I call “guess the dress” where I guess what the dress looks like before seeing the bride in it. I don’t mean to brag… but…. I’m REALLY good at it, I mean if I do say so myself! I’d say I’m right about 95% of the time. 😉 As Megan and I were driving to greet Kamya that morning this was what I predicted, “She’s wearing a high mermaid dress with a bit of cleavage, lacy, low back. Her hair will be down but pulled all to one side with a slight smokey eye and natural lips.” I first entered their getting ready room and saw her eye makeup being done and pronounced, “YES! I was right! A slight smokey eye!” Kamya wondered what I meant, I then told her all about my goofy game and then proceeded to tell her everything I said above (you can see in the above left photo, her hair wasn’t even close to complete) and she looked at me like I was a damn wizard, because well… I am. 😉

I loved all of the varying yet complimentary dresses.

Bernard asked for a photo of the groomsmen in front of the fountain, and we aim to please!

Kamya’s mom Donna proudly walked her down the aisle. My shortness is why many of my images include shoulders when shooting while standing behind someone; and I happen to love that image on the right!

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect!

Kamya’s daughter Reagan reminded me so much of me when I was 16 and watching my mom marry her husband. I was a crying mess! I didn’t know why and I still don’t know why I was so emotional but alas, I cried… a lot!

Recognize that handsome groomsman? 😉

I love love love when couples write their own vows; and Kamya and Bernard’s most certainly didn’t disappoint!

Newfields is such a beautiful venue! For those unfamiliar, the entire property was previously known as the IMA or the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Below is the Lilly House, 22-room mansion on the grounds of Newfields.
