Kansas City, Mo.

When Kara, an insanely talented photographer based in Kansas City, Mo (my hometown!), contacted me to photograph her wedding on our last open weekend we had left last fall, we haaaaaad to say yes! Usually when we’re working so many back-to-back weddings I’ll add to our calendar, “DO NOT BOOK!!!” so that we have a minute to breathe. But come ON! I couldn’t say no and let me tell you, I’m so incredibly glad I didn’t. 😀

The forecast for that day was welllll… a little less than desirable… as in…. it rained ALLLLL DAMN AFTERNOON! But Kara and Micah were up for the Bobbi Rain Challenge (ie. we go outside even if the weather is crazy with the promise that we will try EVERYTHING in our power to keep you dry and beautiful!). I wasn’t there for the “getting ready” portion of the day so we started things out with portraits… in the rain!

Seeing the inevitable rain forecast in advance, we packed our clear umbrellas in our luggage and thank goodness we did!

Kara & Micah

All of the photos of them that you see without an umbrella, those were taken under bridges and overhangs. I love having a couple who trusts me and is down with my crazy.

A BREAK IN THE RAIN??!?! YESSSS!!! When we scouted for locations the day before, the spot with the most amount of overhangs/bridges… well… there was some sort of festival planned. So what did the four of us do? We made that festival ours! (I really wanted to say a bad word there, but I’m keeping this blog post PG 😉 )

I love Kansas City.

Not only was this wedding a marriage of two people, it was also the marriage of two families. Now you know I be lovin’ me a blended family!

They got married in the cutest little chapel in Kansas City. Kara’s son walked her down the aisle.

After the ceremony the sun came out and we were loving every second! I snapped a few photos of our lovely couple on the sidewalk where our cars were parked. HOLY WOW TO THIS!

Kara and Micah, I cannot thank you both enough for letting Megan and I into your family for the day.  Many people approached me at your reception saying something along the lines of, “Kara speaks very highly of you and she’s the most talented photographer I’ve ever known; so you must be the best!” Ummm, NO PRESSURE! In all actuality, I have to agree with your friends; Kara, you truly do have a gift with that camera of yours.  Thank you for asking us to photograph one of the most important days of your lives.

Your love was an incredible thing to witness.

I love love LOVE shooting weddings at Union Station! It is truly one of my very favorite Indianapolis venues.

Lately they’ve been allowing the girls to get ready in this huge upstairs room (as opposed to the smaller room in the basement) that has winnnndowwwws and this photographer (and many other photogs) is oh so appreciative! Thank you to the powers that be who have been making this happen!

If you’ve been following my blog for any period of time you know that a four-prong solitaire is my favorite. And this diamond?! GIMME GIMME GIMME!

Maybe I should post mine up here someday? Yeah, I will. Good idea Bobbi. Thanks Bobbi.

One of my best friends has a daughter named Olivia, and every time I see her I exclaim, “OLIVIA, ILOVIA YOU!”
It took every ounce of discipline I had within myself to not say that every time I said Olivia’s name. I mean… the photographer professing her love for the bride continuously throughout the day mayyyyy seem weird. Then again, in retrospect, it’s not like it would have been thaaaat off brand coming from my crazy!
OLIVIA, I LOVIA YOU!

A handsome Labrador in a bowtie?! YES PLEASE! Whyyyy did you even have to ask me????!? Oh, you didn’t ask? Okay, well now you know how I feel about the whole thing. You’re welcome.

Get yourself a woman who looks at you the way Olivia looked at Taylor on their wedding day.

Are you KIDDING me with this venue?! I’ve shot at Union Station what seems like 100 times and I’m still in awe every time I walk through those double doors.

One of my favorite things about a traditional Jewish wedding is that the bride’s and groom’s parents’ join them under the chuppah usually for the entirety of the ceremony. Though truth be told, I love everything about a Jewish wedding!

I AM OBSESSSSSED WITH MOMMA’S REDDDDDD DRESSSSSSS!!!!!! If I were ever forced to choose one color to wear for the rest of my life, you best believe I’m showin’ up in red.*

Sidenote: for the record, my favorite color is yellow; but I look awful in it. My home, however, GIMME ALLLLLLL THE YELLOW!

*if any of we Americans are ever forced to wear one color, it’s time to start rioting; for we live in a damn democracy!

A cute story: The Hora started and no one knew what to do.  So Leslie (the amazing planner) and I frantically look towards each other and without saying a word we grab hands and enthusiastically  started the Hora.  Yeah… Not all heroes wear capes. 😀 One of the mannnnny reasons why hiring experienced wedding professionals should be on the top of your planning to-do list. Though I may be partial.  😉

HEEERE WEEEE GOOOO AGAINNNN!!!!! One of my favorite families of all time: The Kim family! This team truly holds a special place in my world, they have from the moment I met them when I shot their engagement photos 12 years ago. TWELLLLVE YEEEEEARS AGO…. WHAAAAAT??!!? I know I’m always super dramatic about how long I’ve been photographing certain families but I keep forgetting that I’m nearly 40 and I’ve been doing this since I was 24. I mean, do the math Bob!

A quick recap: their family of three, their family of four, their family of four again, and thennnnn this session; their family of five!

It’s a tradition: squishy face! I took a squishy face photo of Thomas at our very first family session. Then, I took another when Daniel became a part of the family. For the third session, I insisted that it was now a tradition and we must do it again.  So of course we it must happen for THIS session! Welllll…. I should say that we definitely gave it our best effort but sweet Anna looked like she was about to burst with all of the love squeezes! Click here to see my not-so-perfect attempt. Also, look what I just noticed!

“How you turned a crabby toddler, 2 boys who kept asking when we were going to be done, and a few mosquitos into these makes me wonder where you hid your magic wand, Bobbi.” –Peter

“I was seriously nervous after our session…Anna wasn’t her happy self, and the boys were asking if we were done yet countless times…but you pulled it off. Again. I shouldn’t be surprised.” –Robin

You two are the best, the very very very best! Anytime you need photos from now until eternity, I will clear my schedule to make it happen, mark my words!

“Robin:  The absolute 1) sweetest, 2) most thoughtful, 3) most servant-hearted, 4) most beautiful, and 5) best mother to his children a man could ever have. Was that more than 5?” –Peter

We were nearing the end and Anna was nearing meltdown so Peter suggested that Robin do this. IT WORKED!

Then I thought, “how cool would it be for Robin to have a memory of her perspective of the mom airplane!” So I quickly got on the ground and click click click!
