Jeffy turned 21 this month. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! TWENTY ONE???!?! It’s SO weird to see him as technically old enough to buy alcohol. If you’re a long time blog reader you know Jeffy π If not… well, I’ll tell you π Jeffy is Mike’s challenged brother who will forever be Mike’s baby brother. π
He also happens to love all things Sesame Street. We invited Mike’s family to our house last week to celebrate a belated Christmas (we were with my family this year in Kansas City) and also Jeffy’s 21st birthday. I JUMPED on the opportunity to make him a birthday cake.
Ever since I made my birthday cake last June I’ve been OBSESSED with baking and creating. For me it’s a creative outlet that’s not photography… and I LOVE the entire process (though not the best new hobby considering the healthy train!).
For months, I’ve had my eye on these sesame street cake pops for Jeffy Β (by theΒ famous food blogger Bakerella). I’ve never made anything like it and was super excited to try my hand at it… I FINALLY had an excuse to make them. Oh, for those wondering… essentially a cake pop is a ball of cake and icing covered in colored white chocolate and then decorated…
So, without further adieu… here they are!
I made three of each so that I had enough left overs to bring over to Addi and for Karen (Mike’s mom) to bring back to her great nieces. PS. After about a day and a half of constructing them… the final touches didn’t happen until the sun went down and the light in our loft wasn’t at its best. Not to worry, I took a few more photos of the leftovers the next day with the sun!
But of course I had to make a cake to put them all in. I tried to make the icing look like grass. Mike’s parents bought us a Kitchen Aid Mixer for Christmas and I put it to work RIGHT away on that icing! (BEST GIFT EVERRRRR!) Oh, and yes… my expression in that photo on the left would be categorized as joyfully intense. π Jeffy, however, wasn’t as excited about them as I was. Β Oh well… I still had a blast making them!Β Posing it up. Here are the photos with a bit more detail taken the next morning in the sun light π
Big Bird was the most popular.
Here were Addi’s favorites π …but Oscar was who I was most proud of!Β That’s it! Hope you enjoyed…
And to the healthy train… don’t even THINK about it… this thing is a calorie bomb! I ate half of one cake pop and had WAY too much guilt to complete it!
Much love!
~bobbi β
PS. Just toΒ reiterate… before you try your hand at these know that they are pretty labor intensive! It really did take 1.5 days to complete… I wasn’t exaggerating (…as I’m known to do π ). That being said, they were really fun to make… and I’d totally do it again!
Β

I am SO flippin’ impressed! I’m a lover of all things Muppet, but that makes me incredibly critical when people try to emulate them and do a poor job…but THESE…these is AWESOME. You nailed it! And if you feel too guilty, I’ll send you my home address and you can ship a few this way and I will devour them for you (just here to help). π
Oh, the first photo of you is so hilarious. Love it. Happy birthday to Jeffy! I remember the sword fight photos, but that has to have been years ago because I’m pretty sure we were still in Tulsa when I read that.
Cherron! WOW!!! Good memory! That was summer of 2008… I’m impressed!
OMG!! that is amazing!!!My fave Oscar!!

And as a fellow Oscar lover, those are my favorite too!
Hats off to you woman. Baking takes so much patience (which I just don’t have) so I’m in awe!

Those are the COOLEST! Just like you π Your face in the pic with Jeffy perfectly expresses that nervous/excited/proud feeling you have when you give someone something you worked really hard on and are really excited about!
Awesome! My birthday is in June and I’d like to 2nd Stephanie’s request for Strawberry Shortcake pops. π
I few things I love about this post:

Um, you are a rockstar! I love the enthusiastic photo. Also love love love your apron!
wow, i love these… they remind me of the brown paper bag puppets we would make when I was young. Oscar the Grouch and Grover were always my favs. Great work on this! I am sure it meant a lot to your brother-in-law that you put so much heart into making these.
First, these pops look awesome! Second, so does that skinny girl with the polka dot apron… The healthy train looks fantastic on you, Bobbi!
Bobbi, I’ve been reading your blog for about a year now. I seriously love you guys!! Any-hoo I have a challenged bro but he’s 2 years older than me. Love him to peices!! This totally made me love you guys even more!
You rock!!! My entire family lives in Kansas City and I love visiting them once a year. There are so many amazing back drops and we always have fun shooting and exploring when I’m there.
Love, love, love your creativeness~~~
AAH-MAZING! cookie monster made me smile π and trust me…after the day I had today, that was a pretty big deal. thanks for brightening my day!!
Those are fantastic!! I tried to get my sister to let me maker her some Toy Story ones for her birthday this year…but she kindly let me know that 19 year olds don’t want cake pops. I guess I’ve gotta find someone else to make them for!
Ha! I TOTALLY love Bakerella and have followed her for years! Cake pops are fun to make…definately intensive but with a group of people fun. Mine have never looked so nice though! Great job!
AYKM? Is there anything you don’t do with a flourish? I love them, and the love that you put in them. My son was in love with Cookie Monster at age 4, and we looked all over for a C.M. piano one season. It was a big hit! I love you for your kind, caring, selfless acts of kindness. I love you for your enthusiasm and zest for life. Anyway, I just kinda love you!
I love everything about this post!!!!!!
I LOL’d when I saw Jeffy’s response compared to your face. Oh how I love families!
These are fantastic, I’m expecting you to come this Wed with Cat in the Hat pops for Miles’ 4th. ;-D
OMG bobbi! I am so impressed! You are quite the perfectionist! These are awesome! You really do look so cute when you are excited!
These are awesome!!! But Gosh…I don’t think I could ever be persuaded to spend so much time on something like this…but they are super cute…you should submit these to a magazine!!!
Bobbi, you’re awesome!! π
RIDICULOUS!! Super mega awesome lady… wow.
Those are freaking awesome! Good job Bobbi! I like Jeffy’s shirt. I used to go to Cedar Point every summer when I lived in Michigan as a kid.
that is just awesome!!! i want a pop!
You’re so talented. Truly. (P.S. Bakerella is my fave!)
i love it when you post about baking (although only twice so far..) will you make my bday cake this year?! π love it!
very cool π
So… Addi and I have been splitting 1/2 a Sesame Street Pop every day since you brought them over. Somehow I’ve convinced myself that spreading out the calories makes them less calories in the end- whatever. BTW, we haven’t cracked into Oscar yet- I just can’t bring myself to do it… he looks so perfect!
What?!!! Those are a amazing Bobbi!!!
Those are AWESOME!!!! WTG!! Very cool that you’ll spend the time to show your family how much you love them. π
Great. Now I completely have baking envy and now for a week I’ll be continually covered in prime colors of food coloring. My favorite is Oscar…he looks only slliiiightly grouchy. π
What?!?! Those cake pops are amazingly good! I’m really impressed. As far as looks go, they are bakery quality cake pops. And that photo of you holding up the cake- you look beautiful in that one. You could do a Pantene commercial your hair is so shiny.
these are so awesome i love it…i think you did a great job!!!
OMG. Bobbi! These are amazing. I love them, you did such an amazing job! I’m obsessed with cake pops right now too.
I want one! Or two! Maybe three!
