Hi friends! Happy Labor Day weekend!
Alright, it’s late and I need to get some sleep before this big weekend I have coming up so I’ll cut straight to the chase.
Instagram Stories vs Snapchat
I started using Snapchat last spring.
I was a late adopter (as I think most of us over the age of 22 were)… but my last group of workshop attendees convinced me to try it.
Bobbi! Your goofy personality was MEANT for Snapchat! –CrystalJo (she’s older than 22, she’s just way ahead of her time! She also Crossfits, is WAY hot and shaves half of her head…. so yeah, she’s much cooler than me!)
I’ve since been snappin’ it up nearly every day since then. It’s a way to show another side of my personality that most would never have seen otherwise. Oh, and my dogs are WAY cute.
I’d announce on occasion on my social media that I was on Snapchat. I kept hearing people say, “I downloaded and I just don’t get it! It’s not intuitive. I don’t understaaaand! WAHHHH!!!”
BONUS: a Wall Street Journal tutorial on using the Snapchat.
…thennnn the Instagram Story came out.
UGH! It’s quite redundant (and a lot of extra work) to use both. However, as a business, all of the major social media outlets should be utilized in some way.
So I gave the Insta-Story / Snapagram a try. It was quite similar to Snapchat but MUCH more user friendly. Yet I surprisingly found myself annoyed by people’s stories when they exact same story on Snapchat would make me smile. I have no idea why… maybe I’m just weird. Whatever the case I continue to use it for the next week-ish.
I also noticed in that week that I was using InstaStory instead of Snapchat, I wasn’t as silly and real on Insta-Story as I am on Snapchat (subconsciously of course). Maybe it’s because there are less people watching on Snapchat? Whoooo knowwwws… moving on…
AHEM… I lost 173 Instagram followers in five days!
My theory: people who follow brands don’t want to see a brand story mixed in with their friends stories. Unfortunately you can’t pick and choose whose stories show up.
“Oh no! I missed watching my best friend make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich because of all of these dumb businesses cluttering up my Insta-Story with their laaame stories about changing the world. UGH! MORE BFF PB&J PLEASE!!!”
::ANGRILY UNFOLLOWS BOBBIPHOTO::
I think many were unfollowing the people they don’t actually know in real life. At least that’s what I’m telling myself so that I don’t think that all of those people unfollowed me because they find me annoying… which, let’s be real, is quite possible.

WHYYYYY DO WE LIKE WATCHING OUR FRIENDS MAKE SANNNNDWICHES?! WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR MODERN DAY SOCIETY?! I’m not pointing fingers here, I’m just as guilty… but you have to admit it’s weird!
— interjection over —
So I asked on Instagram and Facebook what I should do. How do we, as businesses, utilize both?!
Then the clouds parted and the angels began to sing…. a friend suggested (after the angels stopped singing), “How about you use Snapchat for personal stuff and Insta-Story for behind the scenes business-y stuff.” GENIUS! Soooo…. THAT is what I shall be doing.
Alllll of that to sayyyy…
This weekend I’m shooting two weddings… so be ready to watch my ridiculous antics in some behind the scenes footage on the Insta-Story. That said, I’ll ONLY be cluttering up your feed for the next two days, then I’ll go back to taking dog videos so many of you crave on the Snapchat.
If you’d like to follow along with Megan and I’s wedding adventures, follow me over on The Instagram @bobbiphoto.
On the other hand, If you like really cute dogs, hearing me talk strangely fast about nothing, crying about JLo and Marc Anthony’s divorce, orrrr funny stories about Crocs… go find me on The Snapchat under username bobbisheridan (or you can use the Snapcode at the bottom of this post. MAN OH MAN I AM SOOOO TECHNO!)
Alright, that’s enough outta me for one night… I’m heading to bed!
Goodnight friends, see you all tomorrow. 🙂
–Bobbi
Great advance! Love you both on snap chat & Instagram stories. Funny story, I got my snap chat back, because I saw you were on it, true story!
I enjoy your antics on both Snapchat & Insta…what are we calling that again?
Anyway…some behind-the-scenes stuff on the Insta side sounds like the perfect solution to your dilemma.
Keep up the great work!
Love you on snapchat, you crack me up. Love you on instagram because you are great at the work you do. Moral of my comment, for me you can’t go wrong, you are awesome either way. Keep Snapagramming away!
This is genius! I didn’t know what to do with Insta-Stories so I just didn’t do them. But I love the idea of doing business stuff there and personal stuff on Snap. Although, I always try to tie my snap stories into business somehow too. But they’re definitely way more personal.
