Mike’s birthday surprises… well… here’s the quick version (you’ll see why I’m only giving the quick version soon…).
Wife 2.0 time betties.
Friday night I packed us two bags… and hid them in the car.
Saturday we hopped into a car… destination unknown…. drove two hours.
By 2 o’clock we were at a lake house with 18 of our favorite friends.
Later that night we all sat around a camp fire and laughed.
Sunday we rented a pontoon and swam in the lake.
Sunday night we played Catch Phrase and laughed harder than I’ve laughed in years. My throat hurt from laughing so hard. I think I may have peed myself… twice. Kidding… kinda
Monday we ate and ate and drove home.
Monday night, Mike fell asleep early…. I packed, again.
Tuesday, 6am…
“Mike, it’s time to wake up…”
“Why? what’s going on?!”
“Just wake up… we have things to do!”
“Is it still my birthday…?”
“Yep…”
::Mike jumps up:: “Am I dreaming?!”
“Nope…”
“hmmm…. okay….”
I drive us to the airport…. but take a back way. He thinks we’re going to IHOP.
By 7:15 we’re at the airport… destination unknown. Mike just sees that we’re on a connecting flight to Charlotte.
“WOW! This weekend at the lake house was the head fake of the century!” he says.
Then Wilmington.
He’s sure we’re going to the Outer Banks of North Carolina… and is excited that we may be in the midst of a hurricane. (not 1% surprising if you know him…)
We get our rental car… destination unknown.
He drives… I passenger… just following along to the GPS.
45 minutes later he figures it out… MYRTLE BEACH!
And that’s where we’ve been since Tuesday afternoon… and it’s been perfect! A surprise vacation?! CHECK AND MARK! We SO needed this. As a matter of fact… this has been my first vacation… ever. I mean, we went on a 4 day honeymoon… but, we were broke and young… so I’m not really sure that was a real vacation. This though… this has been a real vacation
Here’s what we’ve done while here: eat, parasail, relax, drink, nap, got a massage, then napped some more…. and it’s been amazing. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
We come home tomorrow, shoot a wedding on Sunday and then BAM BAM BAM it’s craziness again. See what I mean, perrrrfect timing!
NEEEEEDLESS to say…. Eating healthy and working out has been the last thing on my mind this past week… and that’s 100% okay. For us, it’s been more of a mental health week… something I think is COMPLETELY undervalued.
My big victories this week?
- I swam in a lake… IN A BATHING SUIT. HUGE deal. I haven’t been in a bathing suit publicly in 19 years. Won’t lie… it took some SERIOUS working my way up to it… but, I started to experience heat exhaustion on the pontoon while everyone else was already in… so, I HAD to do it.
Still not 100% confident… but at least I did it!
- I wore a dress… and it showed my legs. (I’ve mentioned this before but… I haven’t worn shorts because I’ve hated my short/white/stubby legs since 7th grade…)
Man oh man… my insecurities are just flippin’ silly… and they’re CLEARLY insecurities I’ve had for a long long LONG time. I’m getting over them…. just not as easy for me as it is for the average person. Yeah I know… I’m ridiculous.
My weight? NO clue. I’ve definitely gained… but, that’s okay… jumping back on it this week.
How’d you do?
Hope your week has been fabulous!
~bobbi
PS. don’t forget to weigh in on the google doc…. see you here again in two weeks!
PPS. happy 30th birthday Mike. I love you more than anything else in this whole world!
PPPS. off to the beach betties.
FINALLY!!!! i’ve been checking back for days waiting for mikey’s b-day post!!! sounds fabulous!!!! you did great surprising him and giving him a great celebration
way to go bobbi-high 5!!!
I don’t see how anyone could be focusing on your legs with a smile like yours and your amazing personality. The attention is on Bobbi, not Bobbi’s legs, and really, isn’t that how it should always be anyway. But you look great and I’m glad you guys got to have a super fun vacay.
you are a CUTIE! and an awesome wife. setting the bar high for some of us newlyweds out there
I LOVE that you made the photo look like something from the 70s. I can think of pictures of my parents that look like that haha! You look great!
So glad that you were able to take a much needed vacay!! And glad that you weren’t concerning yourself with weight and what you ate. My husband and I just did the same and man did it recharge our batteries. Can totally relate to the whole insecurity thing. The amount of time I spend thinking about how I wish “this was smaller, or skinnier”… it’s exhausting!! I wish I could just love me the way I am. Healthy, attractive, compassionate, intelligent. That should be enough right?! Sigh… one day maybe. By the way, your legs are awesome! No lie or ass kissing. Wear dresses more often. ; )
That sounds like an absolutely amazing gift, for both of you! Glad you are getting some down time with your honey. Enjoy yourself completely and with abandon knowing you can refocus when you are home again. Oh, and you look awesome in a dress, just so you know!
Well done, Bobbi!!!!!!! Happy birthday, Mike!

Ah, but was it Genuine Authentic German type curry powder made from a three hnudred year old, old world recipe? We have to scrape by around here with the Genuine Authentic Jamaican type curry powder made from a new world recipe.
I’m sooo sorry sweetie, I didn’t mean to make you cry, or rub salt in an old wound…. I only meant to ‘show off’ your ideas, and how even ugly thigns can inspire the imagination. Read the quote from Bhuddha again, I think it was written for us :)….. Way to go on the new tutorial too!!!~BobbiPS – “Keep your face in the sunshine, and you won’t see the shadows” – Helen Keller
Hey, that’s a clever way of thinking about it.
