We adored this wedding. You’re about to see why. 🙂
Story time
I first met Darin at Alli and Kyle’s wedding in Goshen, Ind, circa 2012. On occasion I’ll spot someone at a wedding that I know I want to photograph in the future. I always approach them and say something along the lines of, “Some day when you get married, I’m going to be your wedding photographer… just wanted to let you know!” Uuuuusally it’s a couple. I’m prettttttty sure that Darin is the only person I’ve ever said that to who was single at the time.
He laughed and responded, “Deal. But first I need to find a girl.”
Welllll… fast forward to 2014. Mike and I were at a tasting at Trader’s Point Creamery where we randomly sat next to Darin and his sister Mandy. I immediately recognized him but didn’t want to seem like a creeper so I kept it to myself. Fifteen minutes later Darin says, “I think you were the photographer at Alli and Kyle’s wedding…”
“YESSS!!!! I WAS!!!! And I told you I was going to photograph your wedding someday!”
“Hahaha, yes… that was me.”
Fast forward to 2015… I get a phone call, “Hey, it’s Darin… I’m engaged now and I told my fiancé that we already had a wedding photographer soooo…. let me know what I need to do to make that happen.”
Story over.
Grandma Genny 🙂
Uncle Darin and Rhilynn are best friends for sure.
WE LOOOOOOVED THISSSSS!!!!! Each of their families escorted them down the aisle. I’ve never seen this and I now want this to be something that happens at all outdoor weddings. DAMN What a sweeeeeeet wedding this was! Also… Marg’s (Greta’s Mom) expression in this image is PRICELESS!
Each of their parents wrote something and read it to them during the ceremony. The difference between 25 year old wedding photographer Bobbi vs 35 year old wedding photographer Bobbi… I focus SO much more on the families and their relationships than ever before. 🙂
Darin’s Parents
Greta’s parents (after they spoke)
This. THIS. THISSSS!!!!!
Patrick (the man with the microphone) wrote a song for Darin and Greta. At the end of the ceremony a choir of friends (to include Darin and Greta) assembled to perform the song… and it was pure magic. PUUUUURE MAAAAGIC!!!!!
PS. David, do you have video of that? I would love to show it to my blog readers!
See how they’re organized by part? I’m not sure what order it’s in but I’m guessing it’s Soprano, Tenor, Alto, Bass. I ONLY point that out to show you that this was a legit choir… as in… the bride and groom aren’t even standing together so they can each sing in their designated sections. It was phenomenal. A video is the only thing that could adequately do this scene justice. PHENOMENAL !
SURPRIIIIISE! A BAG PIIIIIPERRRR!!!!!
They both have such incredibly fun families.
Greta’s only request: “a photo of us jumping.” Done & Done! Be sure to scroll to the bottom to see a photo of where exactly I took this. Two words: HUMBLE BRAG! 😀
Each of their siblings gave a toast. Have I mentioned I love families? BECAUSE I DOOOO!
There were no “formal dances” as in first dance, parent dance, etc. But they SUUUUURE did have an awesome informal dance party! 😀
Someone requeted that Greta do a synchronized dance with all of her best friends… THIS was what happened. One of them led while the others just followed. It was hilarious.
And you WONDERED why I told him I was going to photograph his future wedding?! I mean, this guy is the definition of fun!
As if you couldn’t tell… they’re CLEARLY singing “Africa” by Toto. 😉 Megan and I have noticed there is a crazy obsession with this song mostly in Northern Indiana / Notre Dame area. After some Joe Pesci research on the subject… we are still perplexed! I’m going to ask on Facebook and I’ll report my findings soon.
Right after we had packed up and were heading out the door… the guests lifted up Greta and Darin in what I remember was “Circle of Life” from Lion King… but Megan insists it wasn’t (someone please tell us because it’s KILLING us that we don’t remember). Well, our flash gear was all put away but we made it work what what we could make happen quickly. I grabbed a camera and she flipped on my LED video light and this is what we got! 😀 I love the hands holding Greta up.
UPDATE! Megan and I remembered the song!!!!! “Will You Be There” by Michael Jackson. PHEWWWWW!!!!!!
behind the scenes
Don’t mind me… I’ll just be hiding behind that microphone… you know… baaaaaarely visible.
Remember I said earlier (the jumping shot) that I would show you a photo of where I took it. Yep… the image on the left is me explaining to them how they were going to jump. Ummmm Yeah… YEAH!
On the right… If you follow my goofy snapchat, we just recreated the conversation that happened as I was processing it. 🙂
I just cut off like 8 inches of my hair (DUMB) and I’m regretting it. This photo is taken pre-haircut. Luckily my hair grows super fast.
Me with my bride/grooms. (That’s Alli & Kyle on the right!)
