OHHHHH what a FUNNNNN Saturday we had!!!!!!
Betsy and Gail come to Indy to visit us, YEAHYEAHYEAHYEAHYEAH!!!!!! 😀 They came for a couple of reasons… to learn how to clean their sensors (which, according to Mike, is RIDICULOUSLY easy), off camera lighting, and our workflow/file organization. But really… most of the day… we just giggled. 😀 Thank Mike for being so patient 😉
Now, you all know Betsy of course… she's been on this blog many, many, many, MANY times!
AND NOW… INTRODUCING GAIL!!!!! Okay, that was a little over the top 🙂 Gail is a photographer in Muncie who's GREAT friends with my GREAT friend Betsy 🙂 So, if A equals B and B equals C… that THAT must mean that I'm GREAT friends with Gail, too! Have I lost you yet? Gosh, I'm not even sure I'm following along.
ANYWAY… when Betsy and Gail had finished cleaning their sensors, they decided to play with some of our lenses. Betsy grabbed my all-time favorite… the 50mm 1.2 🙂 Gail grabbed an up and coming favorite… the 35mm 1.4 🙂 As they stood on our balcony shooting with it… I couldn't resist grabbing Gail's camera with that 35 attached and shooting one of her 🙂 So.. I did!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THAT BEAUTY?! SERIOUSLY?!?!?!!!! You couldn't have resisted either… guaranteed. 🙂
That was taken at 1/200th of a second… backlit during the setting sun at f 1.6 🙂 ANNNND… ISO 160.
And there she is… our beloved 35 1.4 🙂 (of course, taken with my true favorite… the 50mm 1.2 😀 )
What I love about the 35 is that it's pretty close to how our eyes see the world. I like to show everyone how I see the beauty of people… through my eyes. I like to shoot up close and personal with it. I like how intimate the images are. I like that when you see photos from that lens, you can feel like you were right there experiencing it right next to us. Gosh, I'm sounding RIDICULOUSLY cheesy but really… this is exactly how I feel. 🙂
It's oh so sharp, quick to focus… and well… it's just an awesome little lens 😀
Okay, that's it from me… for now 🙂
I know I know… our blog has been a little bit slow lately… but, we scheduled a few weeks off from shooting so that we could do exciting things like… taxes 🙂 I do have to say that it's been GREAT getting all caught up on the paperwork/organization side of things because when things aren't done, I'm an anxiety attack waiting to happen.
Shooting is picking up for us a bit this week… so our little blog will have some life thrown right back into it! 😉
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!
~ ❗
PS. Betsy and Gail met through THIS very blog… isn't that COOL?! I don't really know the specifics but something like Gail had seen Betsy's photos here…. clicked over to her blog… saw how amazingly awesome Betsy was…. and they started emailing. 😀 As a side note… Gail never emailed me due to how amazingly awesome I am…. but, whatever, she knows now. 😉
PPS. I hope you guys know that I'm being sarcastic. Mike thought I should remove that last PS. I responded, "NO ONE would EVER think I'm being serious!" His response, "I know… but I'm not sure they know…" So… now you know 😀
How fun! I hope to be able to meet more of my online photographer friends in the future. 🙂
Gail is a super fox wrapped in foxiness and deep fried with a side of foxy sauce.
Ahhhhh – Bobbi, gosh, do I have enough words to describe how incredible you and Mike are? I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that photo you took of me, and I can now say that I get what people are talking about when they describe on here how good you are at making them feel so amazing in front of your camera! Can you say, new Facebook profile shot? 🙂
I am SO thankful to you for putting Miss Betsy on your blog, because I now consider her one of my BFFs. And well, I never emailed YOU back then because who woulda thunk it that little old me could hang in your crowd of coolness? 🙂
I’m so glad to have spent the day with you and cemented that friendship with you and Mike. Which, again, can I just say how AWESOME your husband is? And patient and kind — you two are sooooo perfect for one another.
NOW WHEN CAN WE DO THIS AGAIN???!!!!!!
Seriously. Who would take your P.S. seriously? Your love for the 50mm 1.2 got me thinking about the 35mm 1.8 Nikon is releasing. It’s cheap (my kind of price!) and shoots as a 50mm equivalent on my camera. An acquaintance asked me to shoot her wedding (!?!) the other day. Whoa. I sent her to your blog to see the awesomeness that wedding photos should be.
Brad, that’s what I thought! But he got me all paranoid so I felt the need to add a disclaimer 🙂 50mm is the perfect go-to focal distance for most situations…
And yes yes yes… photographing someones wedding is a BIG DAMN DEAL.. and shouldn’t be taken lightly 🙂 it’s MUCH harder and more stressful than it looks. However, everyone has to start somewhere 😀 It’s clear that you have a huge respect for it… and with the proper equipment/back up equipment/assistant… you’ll do fine 🙂
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!
❗
For having spent five years in Journalism school (and only being married once) I sure am friends with a lot of great wedding photographers! Bobbi+Mike, Maya Laurent, Gail… geesh did I miss the memo that I was supposed to change my career too?
Don’t apologize!! the 35mm is YUMMINESSSSsssssssss!!! Gorgeous shot!!!!!!!
My 50mm is great. Although the 1.4 version’s autofocus isn’t 100% reliable. But I still love it. Itching for the 35 1.4 too.
I’m happy you’ve had a chance to relax and hang out with friends. You deserve the break 🙂
Hey Yey! It is the cincy photo girl with the blue streak in her hair from WPPI! 🙂 I just wanted to say that it was nice to meet you guys! Give us a ring when you are in our neck of the woods! 🙂
Yippppee! It’s beautiful Gail on your blog!
Oh THANK YOU Bobbi for giving us your Saturday to just getaway, shoot the shi*, play and learn a bunch too. (Oh and do a little crisis management on the side. With me, there’s never a non-dramatic moment…..)
I have a little mental game I play where I imagine my perfect street of neighbors with all my friends (who mostly live out of FW) are lined up in little pink houses all in a row. Well, Gail and Bobbi are definitely on my perfect imaginary neighborhood (Bobbi’s house would be orange, of course.) ; ) That probably made no sense. My point being, I love getting together and hope we do it more often!!!
Sounds like you had a good time! Good for you guys!!! You deserve it!!!
I have tried to clean my camera’s sensor, but the same darn dust particle showed up again…can you give me some tips or a lil’ tutorial as to how to clean the sensor? Thank you!!!
awesome photo gail!!!
I love the blogging world! 😉 I was reading Betsy’s blog (which I read daily) and she mentioned you… (whose blog I also read daily)… and then I click on your blog and you mentioned Gail (whose blog I also read). I was actually watching a Tivo-ed Oprah today and thinking about Gail because they did a whole segment on that crazy blanket with sleeves infomercial (she will know what I’m talking about). Anyway, rambling…. Just fun to see three people whose work I LOVE and blogs I follow all intersecting in real life. 😉
love , love the blog.. always have.. always will but…….
please oh! please.. could you tell us how to clean those sensors ? i have a spot on mine and that hole looks so darn mean… i’m afraid to touch anything in there..!.. please tell your fans/friends…. (smile)
The best part of this is that Mike is your little voice of reason…I love that in a relationship 🙂 He’s wrong though–people would never take that comment seriously, but that makes his little comment all the more perfect. Am I nuts? who cares?
Ahhh, the 35. My dream lens, seriously. 🙂 I’m a 50 1.4 girl and I absolutely love it, but I’ve been eyeing the 35 for a while now!
hey bobbi, i recently found your blog and now I’m hooked! You and mike are amazing! I love all you pictures, you guys are super talented. I can’t wait to see what you post next to be wow’d and laugh at blogs. err, not laugh at you, you’re just so funny. You know what i mean right?! hehe
Anyway, I’m a Nikon user and I know you used to be. I’m starting to build up my gear (i’m a newbie photographer) and I’m looking at getting a fixed lense. Do you know if the Nikon 35mm is the same as the Canon? Will I love it as much as you love yours and get the same features that you talked about?
Thanks so much!
Bobbi – you ARE incredibly awesome!!! You are an inspiration to all of us photographers striving to be as awesome as you! =)
Oh the blog world…fell in love with Betsy after finding her through you and even purchased a the same print “today I will be happier that a bird with a french fry” which she found through Gail. I posted a picture and link of the print that hangs in my kitchen and a client bought the print for her apartment. Crazy cool. It sounds like you ladies and Mike had a fun time, what’s not to like about sensor cleaning?! AND now you’ve got me crushing for the 35mm. THanks.
I love your blog, Bobbi & Mike! You always put a smile on my face.
How DO you clean a sensor, Mike? I think we all could use a lesson 😉
How can others get in on these gatherings!? Sounds so fun 🙂 Hope you are enjoying the time off! 🙂
we know you’re kidding, but you are amazing! have an awesome weekend! it was so nice to meet mike at wppi!
50 1.2?! jealoussss.
I can’t get that damn lens of Jesse’s camera long enough to get a shot off for crying out loud…I might have to get a 2nd one for myself some time down the road!
